Bedford Hills Takes Delivery of New Utility Vehicle
By 1st Assistant Chief Joseph Lombardo
May 21, 2013
On Thursday May 16, 2013, Bedford Hills Fire Department took delivery of the new Utility 6, a 2013 Chevrolet 3500 HD diesel. The predecessor was an old Chief's vehicle that was converted to a utility vehicle following front line service in September 2010. Unfortunately, this vehicle suffered catastrophic engine damage during Hurricane Sandy. The new Utility 6 will run on wires down, water conditions, EMS assists and on special request for MVA's to assist with traffic control. In addition, the plow from the old vehicle was transferred to this vehicle, as it will also plow the Fire District properties. When placed into service, this vehicle will carry barricades, generator, trash pumps, chain saws and traffic cones and signs. This vehicle consists of Whelen LED warning lights, FRC scene lights and a Havis Console. Within the next week, the final items will be completed which include a Line-X protective coating will be applied to the floor of the body and a custom canopy will be manufactured to protect the equipment in the bed. A special thanks to Ross Burbank from Burquip for going above and beyond!!!
