By Assistant Chief Alexander Dennett
April 18, 2017

At approximately 12:00 hours on Tuesday April 18th, the Katonah Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire on Allison Road. Car 2211 (Pappas) was quick to respond and immediately requested the Mount Kisco F.A.S. Team respond to the scene. Bedford Police contacted Car 2211 via Fire 16 to advise their officer was on scene and confirming fire through the roof. Car 2211 transmitted the 10-75 (working fire) bringing in Bedford Hills Tanker 5 along with numerous mutual aid companies. While responding, Katonah Engine 115 requested additional resources from Bedford Hills, adding Tower Ladder 57 to the assignment.

First arriving companies were met by a "80x40, 1-1/2 story wood frame" with heavy fire and a partial roof collapse. Command, Car 2211 determined crews would initiate a exterior attack due to the advanced fire, rapidly deteriorating roof and report that all occupants have been accounted for. Tanker 5 arrived on scene 9 minutes after dispatch and assisted Engine 115 with stretching the initial attack line as well as deploying a 2 1/2" line to the rear of the structure.

Command requested Tower Ladder 57 drop its outriggers and provided an elevated master stream to extinguish the stubborn hot spots under the roof debris. With the dedication of numerous volunteers, crews were able to bring the fire under control at approximately 14:00 hours. Bedford Hills units remained on scene to assist Katonah FD with breaking down hand lines and the dump site until being released at approximately 16:00 hours.
