STORM AFTERMATH UPDATE 3-10-18 PM 2:15 PM

Power Outage; Continuing Restoration Efforts
Though most residents have service restored, there remain many who have been out for over a week now. We will keep pushing until everyone has power restored.

For Con Edison service area, I was advised a short while ago that there are 21 outages and Con Edison has assigned two crews to Bedford. Please check the following link https://apps.coned.com/stormcenter/external/default.html. If you are out of power and your street is not listed, please let us know. In response to my question on a conference call this morning, Con Edison replied that after they complete service restoration they would not demobilize crews as there is further work to be done and crews then would be on hand in the event that the storm forecast for Monday takes down power.

For NYSEG service area, NYSEG is showing Please check the following link https://apps.coned.com/stormcenter/external/default.html. If you are out of power and your street is not listed, please call at 800-572-1131. Or, if you have internet access they can report no power by going to www.nyseg.com then selecting "outage central". You also should feel free to e-mail me at supervisor@bedfordny.gov. Our NYSEG municipal service representative e-mailed me a short while ago: "I was just told that we have crews assigned to every outage in the system. That does not necessarily mean the crew is going directly there. Each crew may have multiple assignments but those residents should see a crew arrive soon." The following is his response to my question regarding whether NYSEG after service restoration would retain crews in anticipation on the new storm forecast for Monday: "Per NYSEG's Incident Commander, as our restoration work winds down NYSEG has been asked by the PSC to release some of our crews to assist neighboring utilities with their storm restoration efforts. That said, NYSEG will be retaining a sufficient number of crews to complete after restoration line sweeps (addressing issues that are not currently causing outages but that may in the future). The line sweeps will take into next week to complete, so those additional crews will still be retained during the period in which the next storm is forecast."

Roads and Sidewalks
All roads now are open. The strong majority of sidewalks, including all by the train stations and schools, have been cleared. Snow removal has been completed in all hamlet areas.

Warming and Charging Centers Suspended - these operations have been suspended, however, if you need anything, please let me know.

Dry Ice and Water
We have good supplies of dry ice in front of the doors at the Town Offices at 425 Cherry Street under a blue tarp.

Verizon FIOS/Optimum Online
We fully understand that there are persistent internet outages for many in the community. We also know that residents have had difficulty getting through to Verizon and Optimum. Please e-mail Bea Rhodes at brhodes@bedfordny.gov with phone and address (including hamlet - for example, we have a High Street in more than one hamlet). Bea is compiling and reporting to the providers.

Sidewalks
Our road crews worked on sidewalk clearance in the hamlet centers yesterday and will continue.
We appreciate your patience.

BE SAFE
Carbon Monoxide
Please do not use natural-gas powered kitchen ovens or ranges to heat your home. Using these cooking appliances for heating creates a significant risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas that is invisible, odorless and tasteless. It is formed by the incomplete burning of fuels such as heating oil, wood, gasoline, natural gas, propane and charcoal. Also, don't use charcoal grills indoors for heating or cooking because of the CO risk that also creates. The same warning applies to fireplaces that are not properly ventilated.

Please feel free to e-mail me at supervisor@bedfordny.gov or call me at 666-6530. Please call the Police Desk at 914-241-3111 with reports of downed trees or wires or e-mail me.

Thanks for your patience.
