By Chief of Department Jason Nickson
May 11, 2019

BHFD was dispatched to the above address for a report of smoke in the apartment. Upon arrival, nothing was evident to be showing from a 160' by 40' – 2 Story Condominium Complex. Upon accessing the 2nd floor there was strong odor of wood burning, smoke was discovered inside the apartment, and found to be coming out of the wall.

Car 2031 (Chief Nickson) requested 60 Control to retone the assignment for a fire in the wall. Engine 199 arrived, and the Can Man, entered the residence, while a 1 ¾ hand line was placed into service. The Can Man opened up and confirmed active fire in the wall, Car 2031, transmitted the 10-75 (Working Fire Assignment) bringing in Mutual Aid from the predetermined mutual aid matrix.

The crew of Engine 199 opened up the walls in the fire apartment, and extinguished the main body of fire. Tower Ladder 57 checked for extension to the adjoining apartments and vented the structure.

Engine 198 secured a water source and laid a 5" to Engine 199. Rescue 10 and Tanker 5 crews assisted with ventilation and secondary searches.

All mutual aid companies were asked to stand fast outside the fire building and await instructions.

With no further fire extension, the fire was placed under control. All mutual aid was released and BHFD companies remained on scene with Building Department, Code Enforcement, utilities and Cause and Origin.
