February 5, 2022

It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of 47 Year Life Member and Ex 1st Assistant Chief Mark Rutherford.

An active member of Bedford Hills Fire Department since December 10, 1974 and assigned badge #424 to the Hook & Ladder Company. He held the following positions

Engineer - 1977 - 1978
Lieutenant - 1979 & 1981
Captain - 1993 - 1994
2nd Assistant Chief - 1999
1st Assistant Chief - 2000

Mark was awarded Firefighter of the Year in 1991.

A huge component to our driver training program, ham night fundraiser and BHFD softball team. Mark's untimely passing has left an immense void in our Department.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.

***Service arrangements will posted as the information is made available***

What a great tribute to a truly dedicated member of BHFD. Like a lot of us, I knew Mark since our school days. Anytime I saw Mark he always extended his (massive) hand to shake mine with a friendly greeting. He will be missed by all of us. Rest in peace Mark !!
