Overnight Car Fire on Interstate 684

At 00:20 on Sunday, June 9, 2024 - Bedford Hills FD, Katonah-Bedford Hills VAC, and 45Medic 1 were dispatched to Interstate 684 Southbound in the area of milepost 13.6 (North of South Bedford Road), for a motor vehicle accident with reported vehicle fire. With Rescue 10 being out of maintenance service, Car 2031 (Dennett) requested the Katonah Fire Department to go on standby with Rescue 17, in their quarters.

Bedford Hills units canvassed the entire district with no results. Car 2033 (McGill) proceeded south on the Interstate locating the accident at milepost 12.1 in the Bedford Fire District. Chief McGill updated 60 Control that a passenger vehicle rear-ended a box truck, there was no entrapment - although the vehicle was well off. Tanker 6 from Katonah Fire Department was requested to the scene, along with the Bedford Village assignment.

Engine 199 arrived and stretched the 1 3/4" trashline, and immediately began fire attack, Tankers 5 and 6 supplied E-198 with a 3" Supply Line. The main body of fire was knocked down within minutes. Engine 110 and Utility 6 were used for spill mitigation and traffic control.
