The Bedford Hills Fire District is divided up into twelve different "Box Alarm Areas" known as ESZ's. Each ESZ allows us to have pre-determined Mutual Aid Plans for specific areas and target hazards throughout the District.
The Fire District is approximately 17 square miles bordered by the Katonah Fire District to the North, Bedford Fire District to the East, Mount Kisco to the South and the Somers Fire District (water border) to the West.
Our district is primarily residential, with dwellings ranging from modest 1-2 family homes to multi-million dollar mansions. A moderate commercial area and even some light industrial. Our first due also includes three Schools/Learning Centers, three miles of Interstate 684, 3 miles of the Saw Mill River Parkway a private country club, and the only maximum security Correctional Facility for women in the State of New York.
The Municipal water system only covers approximately 40% of the district, any structural fires in the outlying 60% of the district rely on Rural Water Supply Operations.
