Busy Sunday for Bedford Hills Volunteers

February 14, 2023

Super Bowl Sunday proved to be a busy day for BHFD. The first call of the day was received at 04:03hrs for a commercial alarm at the boy’s school at the Kasho Complex. After an investigation, it was determined to be an alarm malfunction.

At 14:00hrs, a brush fire assignment was dispatched to a property on Robinson Ave. Windy and dry conditions allowed the fire to grow rapidly. Companies were able to contain, extinguish and overhaul the fire within 45 minutes.

The next alarm was received at 16:01hrs. A Rescue Assignment was transmitted for 738 Bedford Road (Rainbow Panda Chinese Restaurant) for a vehicle into the structure. A passenger vehicle jumped the curb and crashed through the storefront. Thankfully, the operator of the vehicle, patrons, and employees of the restaurant were not injured. While operating on Bedford Road, Utility 6 handled an EMS assist, along with KBHVAC and WEMS ALS.

Finally, at 17:30hrs, Tower Ladder 57 was dispatched to assist the Golden's Bridge Fire Department with a Working Structure Fire. The balloon frame structure in the "Old Golden's Bridge" section of town proved to be a difficult fire to extinguish. Multiple void spaces and the use of wood and wire lathe and plaster in walls and ceilings made the process an even greater task. Tower Ladder 57 and Utility 6 operated for approximately an hour and a half before being released by Golden’s Bridge Command.

We haven’t slowed down yet this week. Since the alarm at 04:03hrs on Sunday, BHFD has responded to 11 alarms, with a total of 31 month to date.

Remember, BHFD is always looking for Volunteers to join our ranks. If you’re interested in joining our team, stop by BHFD on Monday Evenings after 6:30 pm.
